July 20, 2017
A major road bridge project worth over PHP1.6 billion, which will connect two cities in Metro Manila has been unveiled on Wednesday, July 19 by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The Bonifacio Global City (BGC) – Ortigas Center Link Road Project, will connect the commercial district of Ortigas Business Center, Pasig City and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City.
It is a four-lane construction road project which involves Sta. Monica to Lawton Bridge with a total distance of 961.427-linear meter across Pasig River linking Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City and a viaduct structure traversing Lawton Avenue onwards to the entrance of BGC.
This new BGC-Ortigas Bridge will directly benefit the DMCI Fairlane Residences Project.
The laying of a capsule to usher the start of the construction spearheaded by Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar with the participation of Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Bases Conversion and Development Authority president and chief executive officer Vince Dizon, and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
The road will lead to the improvement of accessibility between the Cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Taguig, and Makati.
“The link is an overpass that will run from Sta. Monica to Lawton Bridge and Lawton Avenue to the Global City Viaduct. Once completed by March 2020 it will cut travel time from Bonifacio Global City in Taguig to Ortigas from one hour to 12 minutes and traffic congestion at EDSA and C-5 Road particularly along Guadalupe Bridge and Bagong Ilog Bridge will be alleviated by about 25 percent,” said Villar in a statement.
The project will be under the supervision DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) headed by Undersecretary Sadain and Project Director Castillo of DPWH implementing unit Roads Management Cluster I-UPMO and with its partner contractors Persan Construction Inc. and Sino Road and Bridge Company Limited Inc.
The groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies for this new construction project is one of the many infrastructures in the next five years of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration that had been already planned as the country ushers in the Golden Age of Infrastructure.
